Dating back to ancient times, the Japanese have greatly appreciated the natural beauty of their islands. To enhance their appreciation of nature, seasonal plants and flowers were brought into the temples and homes. During the Meiji Restoration in the latter half of the 19th century, the art of ikebana flourished and developed. The Ichiyo School of Ikebana is a 20th Century modern school, with the purpose of creating Ikebana for the home.

The fundamental difference between Western and Japanese flower arranging is that the European style fills spaces. The Japanese way, on the other hand, is to create space.

In this workshop, with instructor Marilyn Hoskins, you will learn to use living plant material, often found in home gardens, to create a lovely floral arrangement. Bringing the outside in.

The Japanese style emphasizes all elements of an arrangement, the shape and size of the container is just an important as the flower material.
