Canada has always considered Crimea a part of Ukraine and will continue to support Ukrainians in their fight to restore the territorial integrity of the state.

Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau made a relevant statement on the occasion of the Day of Resistance to Russia’s Occupation of Crimea, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“On Ukraine’s Day of Resistance, Canada reaffirms its commitment to Ukrainians and the principles they’re fighting for – democracy, justice, and freedom. We will continue to use every tool at our disposal to support Ukraine, for as long as it takes. As Ukrainians continue to fight for the land that is rightfully theirs, today we reiterate that Crimea is, and will always be, Ukraine,” Trudeau stated.

The PM noted that Canada had committed over $5 billion in assistance to Ukraine, including well over $1 billion in military aid, since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

As reported, today Ukraine marks the Day of Resistance to Russia’s Occupation of Crimea.

Nine years ago, Russian sabotage groups began attempts to seize Crimea. On February 26, 2014, at the call of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, thousands of Crimean Tatars, Ukrainians, and representatives of other nationalities rallied near the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to resist the Russian occupation and declare Ukraine’s integrity. The next day, regular military formations of the Russian Federation entered the government buildings of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
